As part of their Master Plan, Drexel proposed a parking garage for the 3400 block of Lancaster Avenue. Many Powelton Village residents have expressed their hopes that this site gets used for more than just parking. What else could happen there?
This scenario shows how ground-floor retail and student apartments could occur on the site in addition to structured parking.
I think if Drexel does a good job of designing it to look like a building and puts in space for 3-4 different retail businesses, the parking garage to replace the parking lot next to the Hess Building could be a great success.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Drexel being able to afford to buy 7-Eleven anytime soon, nor do I think they will or should knock down the just built and very beautiful tennis courts.
Whoa! What happens to the Community Education Center in this scenario? If this means offing the CEC, then I would strongly fight against it.
ReplyDeleteElaine, I could be mistaken, but I believe this would not effect the CEC, but rather the Drexel owned parking lot adjacent to the CEC. I agree, the CEC is an asset!
ReplyDeleteThe CEC is in the photo as is the 35th Street easement. I would like to see some underground parking (maybe 2-3 levels) and then a building set back that would still allow the view of center city from the east community room of the CEC.
ReplyDeleteOk, now lets talk Eastenders. I would like to see a developer like the MacDonald Brothers and Assoc. co-develop the 3200 block of Race Street with LEED Townhouses for Grad Students as in the Onion Flats (I don't know, can I drop in links in these comment blocks?)
On the EAST end of the Village a lot could be done to develop retail on Spring Garden - perhaps even over the tracks and connecting to a new wider SP Garden St Bridge! Yes I also Agree with Joe Revlock- some wonderful green townhoses and or mid rise buildings overlooking the city view with upscale restaurants on the ground floors- and roof tops - wonderful.
